A Journey of Social Impact

The Story Behind the MOBT Global Engagement Grant

The MOBT Global Engagement Grant was born in 2018 from a simple observation: the most successful study abroad programs are led by faculty who possess a deep, firsthand confidence in their destination.

We recognized that while many educators are eager to bring students to Morocco, they often face significant barriers. Many U.S. universities require faculty to have personally visited a country before leading a group there, yet funding for such preparatory site visits is often scarce. We created this grant to bridge that gap.

Beyond Logistics: Building Faculty Confidence

Our goal is to provide more than just a tour of the infrastructure. We offer a seven-day deep immersion that allows faculty to vet site visits, engage with local organizations, and truly understand the pulse of the culture. When a professor returns to campus, they aren’t just reading from a brochure; they are speaking from experience. They can look their students in the eye and answer every question with the authority and passion that only comes from being there.

Impact on the Ground

We are more than a logistics provider; we are community educators. We work closely with local individuals and organizations to explain the importance of academic travel, ensuring they see the tangible benefits of these visits. This mutual understanding creates a richer experience for the students and a sustainable source of income for our local partners.

The Next Chapter: Expansion in 2027 New

Having seen the transformative impact of our work in Morocco, we knew it was time to expand. In 2027, we are officially extending the Engagement Grant to include Portugal. By encouraging faculty to implement programs in these two deeply interconnected cultures, we continue our mission of fostering global understanding through sustainable, community-centered travel.
